Кошки живут с нами с незапамятных времен и являются преданными друзьями человека. В век высоких технологий на уход за ними не требуется много усилий, поэтому они с каждым годом только набирают популярности. Шотландская вислоухая кошка –одна из самых популярных пород кошек, её опущенные вниз ушки и огромные совиные глаза умиляют. Это очень красивая и грациозная кошка, абсолютно здоровое животное, при правильном разведении, обладающее великолепными охотничьими качествами. Она прекрасно уживается с другими животными и очень привязана к своему дому и хозяевам. По происхождению скоттиш-фолд или шотландская вислоухая кошка, является шотландской породой. Из Шотландии эти кошки быстро попали в США, но потом вновь вернулись в Европу. Первые упоминания об этой породе можно найти в литературе 18 века. В Китайском «Всемирном журнале знаний и развлечений» в 1796 г. было упомянуто о кошках с опущенными ушами. А самые первые упоминания можно встретить ещё раньше, в одном из источников того времени было упомянуто об одной кошке, похожей по описанию, на шотландскую вислоухую, привезенной из Китая в Англию. Сведений о том, что случилось с этой кошкой впоследствии, были ли у неё котята, куда она делась, и где и у кого жила нет. В Шотландии первые сведения о шотландской вислоухой кошке появились в 1959 г. Фермер Уильям Росс увидел у своего соседа кошку с необычными, опущенными книзу ушками. Звали её Сюзи. Родителями Сюзи были обычные уличные кошки, их внешний вид не выходил за рамки простых кошек. Жена фермера была увлечена разведением сиамских кошек и заинтересовалась необычным животным. Хозяева Сюзи подарили ей котенка из следующего помета. Так фермеры Россы стали обладателями белой вислоухой кошки, которую назвали Снукс. С этого момента и начинается отсчет целенаправленного разведения шотландской вислоухой кошки. Через какое-то время, Cюзи попала под машину, и Снукс стала единственной продолжательницей рода. Так, что все существующие в мире шотландские вислоухие кошки являются братьями и сестрами и происходят от одной матери Сюзи. Через некоторое время скоттиш-фолды (шотландские вислоухие) кошки были вывезены во многие страны мира.

В Россию шотландская вислоухая кошка попала в 90-х годах прошлого века, и очень быстро завоевала популярность. Но вскоре в ряде стран их разведение было запрещено, в основном в Европе. Одной из стран по иронии судьбы была и до сих пор остается- Англия. Но в самой Англии осталось очень много приверженцев породы. И хоть порода является в Англии не признанной, там существует более 10 питомников занимающиеся разведением фолдов. Причиной запрета стало наличие гена фолдовости (опущенных вниз ушей), который в гомозиготном состоянии давал различные аномалии костной системы, иногда вплоть до инвалидности. И сейчас у скоттишей ведется жесткий отбор. Если есть уплотнения на хвосте, срощеные позвонки, короткий, плохо сворачивающийся в кольцо хвост- такие животные не имеют допуск в разведение. Прилитие кровей персидской кошки дало гамму разнообразных окрасов в породе скоттиш-фолд, но дало ещё один дефект - перекус, тоже очень жестко отбраковывающийся у этой породы. Сейчас ген вислоухости уже изучен и составлены правила для подбора племенных пар. Основным требованием является и это запрещено всеми Международными кошачьими системами (WCF, СFА, ТICA и др.): никогда не скрещивать Скоттиш-фолдов между собой. Их необходимо скрещивать с шотландскими (скоттиш-страйтами), британскими или американскими короткошерстными кошками и это закреплено правилами всех кошачьих федераций. Все заводчики следуют этим правилам.

В помете рождаются: часть котят с опущенными вниз ушками (скоттиш-фолды) и часть со стоящими ушками (скоттиш-страйт или шотландская короткошерстная). При рождении определить, кто из котят будет вислоухим невозможно, хорошо прижатые впоследствии ушки начинают опускаться не раньше, чем через 14 дней после рождения. Чем сильнее прижаты ушки к голове, тем выше племенная ценность животного.

В отличие от собаки кошка обладает достаточно независимым характером и не испытывает сильной потребности в постоянном и тесном контакте с человеком. Поэтому так важно общаться с котятами с рождения и не покупать животных выращенных в клетках и никогда не берущихся на руки. Из них вырастают агрессивные и не умеющие себя вести животные. Забирать от матери рекомендуется не раньше 8-10 недель.

Шотландские вислоухие кошки обладают спокойным и уравновешенным характером. Они наделены не только привлекательной внешностью и обаянием, но и обладают поразительной смекалкой, превращающей общение с ними и их обучение в увлекательную игру. Характер фолдов имеет одну важную особенность - эти животные очень хорошо усваивают информацию и поддаются дрессировке, но только при условии, что человек обучающий фолда - очень его любит. Несмотря на видимую независимость скоттиш-фолды очень привязаны к своим хозяевам, но они не навязывают своё общество, обладая определенной гордостью. Вопреки расхожему мнению скоттиш-фолды не любят одиночества, предпочитая находиться рядом с человеком, которого любят. Их нельзя назвать слишком активными, и подвижным играм своего сообщества, они предпочитают спокойное общение на руках у хозяев. Но при этом у них великолепно развиты охотничьи инстинкты, и они способны часами сидеть выслеживать и терпеливо поджидать добычу.

Это животные, побеждающиe на выставках самого высокого ранга, и имеющие все разнообразие окрасов, говорят о серьезной селекционной работе в породе скоттиш-фолд.
